Lesson 01: Mercy to the worlds (Rahmatal lil Alemeen)

i. The Pattern of the Holy Prophet

The Best Role Model

The pattern means 'model' which is followed, 'Hasana' means the best' the finest'. The character of Holy Prophet Muhammad is the best model for all human beings. Every person who wants to succeed in this world and the hereafter, he should follow the footsteps of the Holy Prophet and the life of the holy prophet has been regarded as the model life for the whole humanity Allah says:

لقد كان لكم في رَسُولِ اللهِ أُسْوَةٌ حَسَنَةٌ (الاحزاب : 21 )

Translation: There has certainly been for you in the messenger of Allah an excellent pattern.

ii. Blessings for all the worlds (Rahmatal lil Alemeen).

Allah ha sent Prophet. Muhammad as the blessing for all the worlds. Allah says:

Translation: And we have not sent you, (O Muhammad) except as a mercy to the world.

iii. Mercy and Kindness for Ummah:

Allah says about the Holy Prophet.

Translation: There has certainly come to you a messenger from among yourself grievous to him is what you suffer, (he is) concerned over you and to the believers is kind and merciful.

Hazrat Muhammad would himself pay the loan of indebt companions. According to particular situation, he shortened his address and prayers. Sometimes he gave up his favorite deed because of the thought that, that very act might not become obligatory for his ummah. For instance, he offered Salah al Tarawih for three days only in the mosque (Sahih Bukhari). Later he thought that Salah al Tarawih might become mandatory for his ummah. In the same manner, 'the Holy Prophet used to be thoughtful always about avoiding his ummah from the difficulty in dealings and worship. As an example, he said about Miswak, had there not been difficulty for Ummah, I would have ordered to do miswak before every prayer (Sahih Bukhari). Both, the Creator of earth and heavens and His creatures are witnesses that the dear Prophet Muhammad was the best example of:

بِالْمُؤْمِنِينَ رَءُوفٌ رَّحِيمُه (التوبه (128)

Translation: "To the believers he is kind and merciful".- Blessing for disbelievers:

Previous ummahs were punished due to indulgence in disobedience and sins someone's faces were cursed. Someone faced the punishment of storm and someone's village/ town was turned upside down. However, due to the presence of Hazrat Muhammad, the infidels of Quraish remained safe from major punishment despite of their disbelief and mischief. Allah said in Holy Quran:

وَمَا كَانَ اللهُ لِيُعَدِّهُمْ وَأَنتَ فيهم (الانفال: 33)

Translation: "But Allah would not punish them, while you (O Muhammad) are among them".

Once, Prophet's companions asked him, You pray (for destruction) of Mushrekeen, "He said", I am not among those who curse, but I have been sent as blessings only. Hazrat Tufail bin Amar Dousi was sent by the dear Prophet to preach tribe of Dous about Islam. On his return, he said, "the tribe of Dous is ruined" because they did not follow and refused to obey. The people thought that, on listening this, the Holy Prophet would pray (for their destruction), However, he supplicated with these words.

-

Translation: "O Allah show righteousness to tribe of Dous and bring them in circle of Islam".

In the battle of Uhad, the teeth of the Holy Prophet got damaged and his face was bleeding but for his enemies he was praying for them in good words.

iv. Mercy and kindness for women:

Before arrival of Islam, there was no respect of women in the society of Arabs and they were brutalized. Hazrat Muhammad gave them respect and honor. He described their rights and responsibilities and blessed them with the status of mother, daughter and wife. He said!

Translation: "Paradise lies under feet of mothers".

The people of Arabia due to fear of poverty or starvation, used to kill their children and bury their daughters alive. He demolished that evil tradition and regarded girls as beauty of home and blessing for people of home..

v. Mercy on orphans:

Our dear Prophet Muhammad was a complete blessing for orphans and poor people. There was no guardian of orphans and widows before him. While describing the virtue of looking after orphans, he said while joining index and middle finger.

Translation: "I and the person who looks after an orphan will be like this (side by side) in paradise".

Hazrat Asma Bint Umais (wife of Hazrat Jaffer Tayyar narrates that on the day when Hazrat Jaffer Tayyar got martyred in the battle of Muta, "the Holy Prophet came to us and said, Asma,. call the children of Jaffer, when I called them, he embraced them and wept, "I said, O Rasullalah, have you heard any news about Jaffer,' he said,' he got martyred today."

vi. Mercy on slaves:

During that age, the slaves were treated mercilessly, Hazrat Muhammad directed to behave with them kindly and mercifully and commanded that your slaves are your brothers whom Allah has made your subordinates. Whatever you eat, feed them with the same and whatever you wear let them wear that and do not put on them extra burden of work more than that of their capacity.

vii. Mercy on children:

Hazrat Muhammad paid too much kindness to children when he passed by them, He used to greet them and stopped and caressed them. One day, he was kissing Hazrat Hassan bin Ali, then Aqrah Bin Haris Tamimi who was present beside him said, "I have ten children, I haven't caressed anyone ever like this.

The Prophet said,"

Translation: "A person who doesn't pay mercy, he is not paid mercy".

viii. Blessing for animals:

This was the trait of the Holy Prophet that not only for human beings but he was a blessing for animals as well.

It is famous incident that once the Holy Prophet went to a companion's house, a camel who was tied there, started mumbling on seeing him. He went straight to him and moved his hand on his back, and then he stopped weeping. Then the Holy Prophet called the owner of the camel and told him that your camel is complaining to me that you take extra work from him and feed him less. Then he said these historical words.

Translation: Pay mercy to animals and do not burden them more than their capacity, because they also feel the pain and suffering as you do.
